Ashtabula County, Ohio
Morgan Township is a quiet and peaceful place, where neighbors greet you with open arms. Our community is dotted with small produce stands and surrounded by the beauty of nature. Thanks to Nature Conservancy Ohio, residents and visitors can explore protected lands, enjoy canoeing along the Grand River, or take a peaceful kayak trip through calm waters. Life here moves at a gentle pace — we’re just a community of everyday people who cherish simple living, natural beauty, and genuine connection.
Morgan Township separated from Richfield Township in 1819 and was named after John Morgan, who purchased the land in 1798. The first settlers, Nathan and Asa Gillett, arrived in 1801, cleared land for crops, and later turned their home into the township’s first schoolhouse with Miss Diantha Wilcox as teacher. Religious services began in homes until the first church was built in 1829, later relocated to the southern border with Rev. Ralph Stone as minister. As roads expanded and Rock Creek Village was incorporated in 1849, the community continued to grow around land donated by the Torrington Land Company.
